In February of 2025, PAWS Humane Society took over Animal Care & Control in Columbus, Ga. The City shelter had faced serious challenges such as overcrowding, poor conditions and heartbreaking euthanasia rates. Since PAWS took over, animal care has improved, 31 new staff members have been hired and trained, and there has been a $3.2 million investment in better facilities. Most importantly, euthanasia rates are dramatically improved. In 2025, a save rate of 90.8% was achieved, meeting the benchmark for a no-kill community.
