Michele Melchior

Michele is a Managing Director in Grant Thornton's not-for-profit tax practice. Experience Michele has over 20 years of experience providing a wide range of tax compliance and consulting to her clients to offer advice and solutions. She has extensive experience serving dynamic non-profit and health care organizations and assists her clients with legal entity tax structuring and formation issues, joint venture and partnership matters. Michele works with a variety of not-for-profit organizations, including private foundations, donor advised funds, supporting organizations, and public charities. She works with clients collaboratively to plan and assist with compliance surrounding the formation, continued operation, governance, and termination of not-for-profit organizations. Professional qualifications and memberships Michele is a certified public accountant and a member of the North Carolina Association of Certified Public Accountants and the AICPA. Community involvement She currently serves on the board of Augustine Literacy Project – Charlotte and previously served as the Governance Chair on the Board of Directors of Theatre Charlotte. Presentations and publications Michele is a frequent lecturer on not-for-profit, governance and tax planning topics for various organizations, including the Tax Executive Institute, Health Financial Management Association, and state CPA Societies. She has co-authored articles on hospital tax compliance issues for the Association of Healthcare Internal Auditors national publication 'New Perspectives' and for the NC chapter of Health Financial Management Association 'Tarheel News'. Education Michele holds both a Bachelor of Science and a Master of Science in Accounting from Appalachian State University.
