Earl Carter
Senator Earl L. "Buddy" Carter is a Republican representing Senate District 1. He represents Bryan County and portions of Chatham and Liberty counties. Sen. Carter serves as chair to the Higher Education Committee and as vice chair to the Health and Human Services Committee. He is also a member of the Appropriations, Ethics, State Instituti ons and Property and Regulated Industries and Utilities committees. Sen. Carter brings a wealth of government experience to his Senate position. He served the City of Pooler with planning and zoning in 1989-1993 and with the city council in 1994-1995. In 1996-2004, Sen. Carter proudly served as mayor to the City of Pooler. He served his first terms in the state legislature in 2005-2009 with the House of Representatives. Sen. Carter is a native of Savannah and graduated from nearby Garden City's Robert W. Groves High School in 1975. He earned an associate degree from Young Harris College in 1977 and then a Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy from the University of Georgia in 1980. Sen. Carter and his wife, Amy, have three children: Joel, Barrett and Travis. He is a pharmacist with Carter's Pharmacy, Inc. and is a Methodist. Sen. Carter currently serves on the board of trustees for the Mighty Eighth Air Force Heritage Museum, Young Harris College and The Coastal Bank. (January 2012)
