Gene Chapman, Esq.

Gene Chapman's experience encompasses nonprofit organizations, law firms, and church-related organizations. He worked as discipline counsel for the State Bar of Georgia for over eleven years and in private law firms in the areas of professional licensing, personal injury cases, family law, and commercial litigation. Gene's educational background includes a masters degree from Midwestern Seminary in Kansas City, Missouri in 1983 and his law degree from The University of Georgia in 1990. After graduating from UGA Law School, Gene clerked for judges in the Chattahoochee Judicial Circuit and assisted them in trials of both civil and criminal matters. Gene then practiced with an Atlanta firm and worked on matters involving personal injuries, catastrophic injuries, cleanup of toxic sites, professional negligence, and commercial litigation. In 1995, Gene transitioned from private practice to the public sector when he began work as discipline counsel for the State Bar of Georgia. Gene's practice with the State Bar involved working to enforce the Georgia Rules of Professional Conduct. When someone filed a complaint against an attorney with the State Bar's Office of the General Counsel, Gene worked to hold the attorney accountable if he/she did not comply with the Rules. After eleven years with the State Bar, Gene again transitioned back to private practice and worked with an insurance defense firm on matters involving primarily property and casualty claims. In 2008, Gene launched his own firm to focus on professional licensing matters and professional certification.  Gene's experience pays dividends for clients facing complaints with their professional licenses, whether it is a grievance, agency investigation, peer review board, or other instances involving professional certification.  He also assists people applying for professional certification or seeking renewal or reinstatment of their professional licenses. Several years ago, Gene expanded his practice to become a neutral in mediation and arbitration proceedings. He is a registered neutral with the Georgia Office of Dispute Resolution and works as a mediator and arbitrator. Gene serves as a neutral for disputes involving personal injury, family law, churches, and faith-based institutions. Gene is a member of the State Bar of Georgia, the Atlanta Bar Association, the Lawyers Club of Atlanta, and the Association for Professional Responsibility Lawyers. Gene has been a speaker and panel member for many continuing legal education seminars in the area of legal ethics and professional responsibility. He provides his clients and parties in mediation with a grounded, practical, and creative approach to working through challenges. When away from his work, you'll probably find Gene enjoying the company of his wife Elizabeth Williamson or tinkering with his '67 Chevy truck.
