Peter Stathopoulos
Peter G. Stathopoulos is Of Counsel to Morris, Manning & Martin, LLP, and leads the firm's state & local tax practice. Mr. Stathopoulos' practice is focused on solving complex state income, franchise, sales/use, unemployment, gross premiums, local gross receipts and property tax problems for clients. Mr. Stathopoulos works closely with state taxing agencies to represent the business community's interests in the formulation of tax policy. In 2002, Mr. Stathopoulos co-chaired a joint Georgia Department of Revenue/State Bar of Georgia committee that helped draft Georgia's current consolidated income tax return regulations. In 2001, Mr. Stathopoulos served on the executive committee of the Business Council of Alabama, which helped draft Alabama's current privilege tax scheme. Prior to joining Morris, Manning & Martin, LLP, Mr. Stathopoulos was a principal consultant in the state and local tax consulting practice of PricewaterhouseCoopers, LLP in Atlanta, Georgia. Prior to joining PricewaterhouseCoopers, Mr. Stathopoulos was legal counsel to the Commissioner of the Georgia Department of Revenue. While with the Department, Mr. Stathopoulos drafted regulations relating to the Business Expansion Support Acts of 1994 and 1995, assisted the Commissioner in the development of administrative tax policy, and acted as liaison with the Governor's Economic Development Council. Mr. Stathopoulos is a frequent speaker on state & local tax issues to various organizations including the Institute for Continuing Legal Education in Georgia, the National Business Institute, the Atlanta Tax Club, Lorman Educational Services, and the South Carolina Department of Revenue. Mr. Stathopoulos has also been a guest professor at the University of Georgia Terry School of Business and the Georgia State University School of Law.
