Georgia CPAs Advocate for Profession at State Capitol For 15th Annual CPA Day
ATLANTA (Feb 05, 2026) — Almost 150 members of The Georgia Society of Certified Public Accountants (GSCPA) recently met at the state Capitol to share their thoughts on important issues facing the accounting profession with their elected officials.
CPA Day attendees enjoyed a networking breakfast followed by a legislative update. Georgia Department of Revenue Commissioner, Frank O’Connell was in attendance, as well as Representative Shaw Blackmon, Chair of House Ways and Means, and Senator Blake Tillery, Chair of Senate Appropriations.
“CPA Day at the Gold Dome was a great day for Georgia’s accounting profession, bringing together practicing CPAs and the next generation of accounting professionals to engage directly with elected officials and share the value our profession brings to communities, businesses, and the state’s economy,” said Boyd Search, CEO of The Georgia Society of CPAs. “Seeing students from universities and colleges across Georgia alongside experienced CPAs made the day especially meaningful and reinforced the importance of advocacy in helping policymakers understand the critical role CPAs play in promoting trust, transparency, and informed decision-making for Georgians.”
Members of the Georgia CPA Caucus: Rep. David Wilkerson and Chairman Billy Hickman provided an update on key legislative issues. Attendees also were able to hear from Emily Farrell and Paul Ziga from the Georgia State Board of Accountancy. GSCPA CEO Boyd Search and VP of legislative affairs, Don Cook provided an update on the new CPA licensure pathways and rules that were implemented on January 1, 2026.
LaGrange College student KJ Howard said, “This is my third year attending CPA Day. It’s very influential and informative to come to this event. I am always encouraged every year that I come. I am shown that with my CPA certification and accounting degree, I can make a difference in the world.”
The Georgia Society of CPAs is committed to serving as the voice of the CPA profession in Georgia as well as advocating for the interests of its members and the business community before legislative and regulatory bodies.
