New Member Monday: Austin Robinson

Austin Robinson is a new member of GSCPA!

Austin has recently graduated from the University of North Georgia in December of 2021. Austin was proactive in his job search and began submitting his application’s back in July of 2021 using platforms such as LinkedIn and Handshake. He landed an interview and was hired on at AGL CPA as a Tax Associate.

Ultimately, he accepted the position at AGL CPA because even though he applied for roughly 100+ jobs, it was 1 out of 2 interviews he actually got. This isn’t to say he would not of turned down the position if he didn’t think it was a good fit. He thinks that some of the key factors that helped him narrow down the decision to take the position were; 1) The interview wasn’t mainly about the job, the company took interest in him and not just what he could do for them, and 2) He thinks most people look to work for a bigger firm, but he personally liked the idea of a smaller firm where you can actually get face time to help learn and expand your knowledge.

His biggest piece of advice for current students is to just apply. It doesn’t matter if the job has requirements, you do not meet, go for it. The worse they can do is not answer or say NO. He would also say that you learn so much in the real world; he has learned more about accounting in his first couple months of working in Public than he did in his 2 years of courses. Of course, the foundation that UNG set for him was invaluable, but you will learn a lot on the job as well.

Congratulations on your recent graduation and on accepting your first job! We cannot wait to see how you help expand the profession!
