Member Monday: Carl Peabody

Say Hi to Carl Peabody, this week’s Member Monday spotlight!

Carl and his wife Kelly area avid sports fans! They try to catch a ballgame when they travel and last year they got to attend Braves games in Cleveland and Cincinnati. Carl loves his when his worlds collide and he gets to combine his love of sports with his other passion - serving others. He has been coaching and officiating multiple sports for the past 35 years.  He still puts on the striped shirt most Saturdays to officiate youth soccer, baseball, football, and basketball games at our church (even during tax season).  His passion for serving has also led him to teach an adult Sunday school class and help with the Men’s Ministry at his church, First Baptist Villa Rica.

After a late start to his accounting career (he thinks he was the first 30-year-old intern at EY), he worked with three large firms before opening his own small firm in Villa Rica so that he could serve the tax and accounting needs of people and small businesses in his local area. After almost ten years of working in Villa Rica and serving on multiple boards with the city, he still loves helping people with and teaching them about the fun of accounting.

When he was asked why he chose the accounting profession, he stated “ When I went back to school after trying a few careers, I took some business classes and I enjoyed accounting more than the rest of them.”

Carl has been a member of The Society for 14 years and has served on our Taxation Advisory Council, the Ethics CPE Task Force, Leadership Council, as well as serving as a Chapter president.

Carl, thank you so much for your service to The Georgia Society, as well as the accounting profession!

The Member Monday series will highlight a different GSCPA member every other week. GSCPA is excited to introduce you to your fellow members and let you get to know a little more about them. Stayed tuned for the next Member Spotlight.
