Don Hunt returns with his Bring Your Own Laptop course. How to Be a PivotTable Expert in One Day (course No. 04018), April 21 at the GSCPA Training Center; 8 hours A&A. These classes require you to bring your own laptop with the following loaded: Windows 98, 2000 or XP, Internet Explorer 5.0 or higher, Office 2000 or XP, PowerPoint and Excel, a CD ROM drive or a floppy disk drive. You'll need Excel VBA Help for the Excel Applications Classes.

Jerry Esselstein offers his course on Effective Performance Issues- Behaviors, Drivers & Measurement (course no. 05007), May 11 at the GSCPA Training Center; 8 hours CPE. Come and discuss events over the past decade that have allowed shifts in cultural and societal behaviors within business and gain a better understanding of the "Corporate Performance Standards" necessary for long-term growth and success. Be sure to register today, this will be the only time this course is offered this year.

The Spring Government Workshop
(course no. 13015), scheduled for May 10, is a unique "workshop" environment to assist CPAs in understanding how to apply the new standard. Ben Lee, CPA, CGFM, CFO will help you implement the nuts and bolts of SAS 99 in the government environment. Early registration ends April 19. This course qualifies for 8 hours A&A and 8 hours Yellow Book credit.

IRS Warns of "Corporation Sole" Tax Scam - The IRS issued a consumer alert advising taxpayers to be wary of promoters offering a tax evasion scheme that misuses "Corporation Sole" laws. Promoters of the scheme misrepresent state and federal laws intended only for bona-fide churches, religious institutions and church leaders.

IRS Introduces E-File for Corporations, Exempt Organizations - For the first time, corporations and tax-exempt organizations have the option of filing their annual income tax and information returns electronically.

The GSCPA's MAP Section is pleased to present the MAP Innovative Solutions Series, a series of educational programming designed to assist firm managers with some of the issues facing accounting firms in today's business world. This project connects volunteer financial professionals with individuals who qualify for pro bono help including low-income consumers; people facing a temporary hardship, the diagnosis of a serious illness, or the aftermath of a disaster; individuals who have undergone formal credit counseling or declared bankruptcy; and enlisted U.S. military personnel. "All-In-One Wi-Fi Router for the Small Office"
- Small Business Computing (03/29/04); Joseph Moran - A new broadband WLAN router for small offices, called Netgear ProSafe 802.11g Wireless Firewall with USB Print Server, model FWG114P, is a powerful device that serves most of the needs of small businesses. This unit, which can be purchased online for about $200, features an internal USB print server as well as broadband failover capability using a dial-up modem. High School Honors Luncheon
- The Accounting Career Awareness Committee is hosting the 2nd Annual High School Honor's Luncheon on April 29, 2004 at the 755 Club at Turner Field. This is a great opportunity for firms and companies to support and encourage these high achieving students. We are expecting 50 high schools to participate. The cost to sponsor is $100. GSCPA High School Residency Programs - Chaperones Needed - The GSCPA will host high school students at Georgia Southern University (June 27-30) and the University of Georgia (July 25-28). The programs introduce high school students to the accounting profession and provide information to assist them in choosing accounting as a career. Volunteers are needed to help chaperone one day and one night. If you are interested or have questions, please email Julie Anderson at janderson@gscpa.org and indicate in which program you are interested.

 

NOMINATIONS SOUGHT FOR GSCPA LEADERSHIP ACADEMY : Nominations are being accepted for the 2004-05 class of the GSCPA Leadership Academy. This highly successful program, modeled after "Leadership Georgia", teaches participants leadership skills and expertise that they will use in their firms and communities. Skills taught are unique to the leadership training program. Your future partners should have these skills. You can nominate one or more people.
