William Runge

Bill Runge is a Managing Director with Alvarez & Marsal and serves as head of the firm's North America Restructuring practice for the Southern Region. Based in Atlanta, Mr. Runge specializes in business diagnostics, business plan development and financial strategies for corporate turnarounds and restructuring. His primary areas of concentration are formulating and evaluating operational and organizational structures, and developing and implementing new strategies in the heavy manufacturing, distribution, telecom and technology industries. Mr. Runge brings more than 30 years of combined experience working in industry, operations, financial and executive management, and turnaround consulting. He has worked primarily with companies challenged by transitions resulting from rapid growth, acquisitions, changes in financial structure and changes in market environments. Mr. Runge has deep expertise in analyzing and defining business operations, and in developing and implementing both tactical and strategic plans that satisfy both short-term expediencies and long-term goals. He has served in Chief Financial Officer, Chief Operating Officer, Chief Executive Officer and Controller roles in the manufacturing, distribution and service industries. Mr. Runge has also led numerous debtor and creditor advisory consulting engagements, and served as a Federal Receiver for the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Georgia. Mr. Runge was recently interim president of Clipper Windpower, a large wind turbine manufacturer were he developed a plan to winddown operations and refocus the company into a smaller footprint leading to a successful sale process. He also served as CFO of PG&E National Energy Group during the sale of operating divisions and winddown of the holding company and trading division, and as operational/financial advisor to UTC Power Corporation, Qimonda , Georgia Gulf Corporation, Novelis, Inc., Flowers Foods, Inc., AlSiMag Technical Ceramics, Mid-South Industries, Greenwood Mills, Wheland Foundry, Pharr Yarns, Inc., Russell Athletics Corporation, Lund International, Athens Furniture, and Laclede Steel Company, among others. Mr. Runge is currently serving as advisor to the senior creditors on one of the largest dairy operations in the United States. Additionally, he has served as advisor to senior creditors in Pilgrim's Pride Corporation, Allen's Foods, Cagles Inc, WorldPoint Logistics, Frozen Specialties, Inc., Beaulieu of America, The Dixie Group, and Star Telecommunications among others. Prior to joining A&M, Mr. Runge spent more than 10 years with the Corporate Restructuring Group of Arthur Andersen in Atlanta, where he served as Partner-in-Charge for the Southeast Region. Previously, he held senior management roles in industry for 16 years, where he was responsible for functions such as manufacturing, engineering, administration, and finance and accounting. Mr. Runge received a bachelor's degree, with honors, in physics and engineering from Washington and Lee University. He holds a master's degree in business administration from Georgia State University. Mr. Runge is a past President of the Turnaround Management Association (TMA), Atlanta Chapter.
