Deborah L. Priest, CPA

Deborah's talent shines during situations that require outstanding organizational skills. Her ability to delve into and sort out excessive data, coupled with her strong interpersonal skills, make her the first choice for clients dealing with forensic accounting issues, IRS and state audits and other tax controversy matters. She has experience in corporate and partnership returns, including multi-state returns, individual tax returns, property tax returns and not-for-profit returns.Deborah really enjoys working with non-profit organizations. As such, she plays an important role in the firm's Form 990 tax preparation practice. She also provides consulting services for not-for-profits relating to their tax exempt status, overall organization, and daily operations.Deborah has developed and presented training classes at Windham Brannon on non profit taxation and the IRS audit process. She has also been a guest speaker at luncheons hosted by various professional organizations in Atlanta, speaking on nonprofits and employee benefit plans. Prior to joining the firm, Deborah was a tax manager at Tarpley & Underwood, an accounting firm that merged with Windham Brannon in 2011. She joined T & U in January 2000 after working 25 years for Southern Company Services, Inc., an organization that provides specialized technical and professional services to electric and gas utilities owned by the Southern Company. Deborah held the position of executive assistant to the chairman of the board of the Southern Company during her first nine years with the company. After receiving a BBA in Accounting from Georgia State University, she transferred to the tax department to begin her accounting career. Deborah is passionate about Girl Scouting and was awarded the Helen Foster Award of Excellence by Girl Scouts of Greater Atlanta last year. She has been a Girl Scout volunteer for over 8 years serving as a troop leader, service unit director and director of a summer day camp. Deborah is a rare Atlanta native and resides with her husband, Terry, in Cumming, GA. Their daughter, Teri Leigh, recently began attending Georgia College and State University.
