Barton W. Baldwin, CPA

Mr. Barton W. Baldwin is past chair of the National Association of State Boards of Accountancy (NASBA) and current managing partner of Baldwin & Hodge, LLP, a republic accounting firm in North Carolina. Mr. Bald-has a tremendous record of service to both his profession and his community. Prior to serving as chair, Mr. Baldwin served the association as Mid-Atlantic Regional Director (1995-1997) and Director-At-Large (1997-2003). He also chaired several NASBA committees including the important Uniform Accountancy Act Committee, the Relations with Member Boards Committee, the Administration and Finance Committee, and the Investment Committee. Mr. Baldwin received his Bachelor of Business Administration in Accounting from the University of Georgia in 1968. He served as a captain in the U.S Army Infantry from 1969-72. Mr. Baldwin began his career in public accounting with Burke, Brunet, & Co. Assoc., CPAs where he rose from Staff Accountant to Partner. In 1977 he founded his own firm, Barton W. Baldwin P.A. ]n 2000, he merged his practice with another Carolina firm to form Baldwin and Hodge LLP; the firm currently maintains offices in Mount Olive, Clinton, and Raleigh, North Carolina. Mr. Baldwin has served the profession in several ways beyond NASBA. From 1985-1991, he served on the Board of directors for the North Carolina Association of CPAs. He also served on the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants Governing Council from 1988-1989 and from 1991-1994. Mr. Baldwin was elected President of the North Carolina Association of CPAs in 1989. He has maintained his membership on the North Carolina State Board of CPA Examiners since 1994; he also held the title of Vice President from 1994-1996. The State Board of CPA Examiners grants certificates of qualification as CPAs to those individuals who meet the legal requirements/The Board also adopts and enforces the roles of professional ethics and conduct to be observed by the CPAs of the state. Mr. Baldwin was the 1998-1999 Recipient of the "Raymond Rains Award for Outstanding Service to the Profession" awarded by the North Carolina Association of Certified Public Accountants. Mr. Baldwin has not only been an outstanding member of his profession, but also of his community. He served as president for the Mount Olive Chamber of Commerce, the Mount Olive Jaycees, the Mount Olive Rotary Club (named District 773 "Rotarian of the year" in 1983), the Mount Olive Boys and Girls Club, and the Mount Olive Committee of 100. He has served on the finance committee, executive committee, and acted as treasurer for the North Carolina Democratic Party. He is a Lay Leader and Sunday School Teacher for the First United Methodist Church, where he has also serv8d on the Finance Committee and the Administrative Board. Mr. Baldwin also received the prestigious honor of being a Hall of Leadership inductee to the United States Junior Chamber of Commerce in 1996; one of only five inductees in the entire United States.
