The Georgia Society of CPAs has been working hard to enact the concept of Mobility for our CPA profession through SB 473. As of April 4, the bill has passed both the Senate and House floors. Passing this bill, with some compromises along the way, is a fantastic day for the profession in Georgia.
On May 14 HB 1055, the Mobility bill, was signed by Governor Perdue. The implementation date for the bill is July 1, 2009, and we will be doing our very best to work with Georgia State Board of Accountancy to publicize and participate in the Public Hearings regarding new Rules for implementation purposes.
Many GSCPA members and Georgia legislators were instrumental in helping the bill pass, and the Society cannot thank them enough. Our lobbyist, Skin Edge, also has our many thanks for his tireless work and dedication to this bill.
The concept of Mobility has been discussed for the last 18 months nationally and in Georgia, culminating with presentations and break out sessions at the October meeting of the GSCPA Council and a feature article in the November/December issue of Current Accounts. Georgia is part of a national movement to enact Mobility.
The concept of Mobility and accompanying regulatory changes that are needed have been approved by the GSCPA Board of Directors, the GSCPA Council, and the Georgia State Board of Accountancy.
Georgia has a long history of staying current and being at the forefront of professional issues and trends. Mobility is an extremely important issue to CPA firms and their clients and to CPAs in industry and government.
As we enter the summer, we need to assist the State Board of Accountancy to create Rules and Policies to enact the bill. This is a very important step and needs everyones support.
A copy of the bill can be reviewed at the Georgia General Assembly web site.
