New Classified Ad Service on GSCPA Web Site

The GSCPA has implemented a new process for placing a classified ad on the web site and in the Current Accounts newsletter. Advertisers can now upload an ad and pay for it directly on the web site. Email renewal reminders, company/firm logo upload, and ad management is also available through the new site. Advertisers can also indicate if they would like the ad to run in Current Accounts and pay for it along with the online ad. To search current ads, or to place an ad, please visit the new web site.

IRS Announces 2008 Standard Mileage Rates - The IRS issued the 2008 optional standard mileage rates used to calculate the deductible costs of operating an automobile for business, charitable, medical or moving purposes: 50.5 cents per mile for business miles driven; 19 cents per mile driven for medical or moving purposes; 14 cents per mile driven in service of charitable organizations.


Role of CPAs Could Be Restored By H.R. 4318

Representative Joe Crowley has introduced legislation to restore the proper role of CPAs as advocates for taxpayers. Rep. Crowley’s bill, H.R. 4318, would restore the role of CPAs as advocates for taxpayers by equalizing the IRS tax return reporting standards for preparers and taxpayers. Read the full story


AICPA Business Solutions Workshop in Georgia
 

The AICPA, in conjunction with the GSCPA, is bringing CPE to Georgia with a one-day workshop - "Delivering on Your Trusted Advisor Status." Real Estate Section 2008 Summer Internship Program

The GSCPA Real Estate Section will coordinate the Real Estate Internship Program in 2008 for rising college seniors or graduate accounting students with an interest in real estate. Firms are invited to participate in this program by sponsoring an intern. For more information on how your firm can get involved, click here

FASB Issues FASB Statements No. 141 (R) and No. 160

The Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB) has issued FASB Statements No. 141 (revised 2007), Business Combinations, and No. 160, Noncontrolling Interests in Consolidated Financial Statements. Effective for fiscal years beginning after December 15, 2008, the standards will improve, simplify, and converge internationally the accounting for business combinations and the reporting of noncontrolling interests in consolidated financial statements. GSCPA Taxation GA DOR Surveys

In January, the GSCPA Taxation Section is meeting with the Georgia Department of Revenue and the Atlanta Office of the IRS. In order to convey the proper message to these two agencies, we need GSCPA members to fill out the 2007 Annual IRS/Georgia Dept. of Revenue surveys. These surveys will close on January 1.
