TAX INFO:Victims of 2005 Hurricanes Get Additional Year to Sell Vacant Land - The IRS is extending for an additional year the time limit within which victims of Hurricanes Katrina, Rita and Wilma have to sell vacant land that they had owned and used as part of their principal residence that was destroyed as a result of the hurricanes.
Treasury, IRS Release Report on Improving Voluntary Compliance - Treasury Department and the IRS released a report addressing the agency's implementation of the 2006 strategy to improve voluntary compliance with federal tax laws.
GOLDEN ANNIVERSARY ENDOWMENT FUND: This year, the Educational Foundation embarks on a two-fold effort to increase the endowment fund. The immediate need is to provide funding for the Golden Anniversary Endowment Fund, which has been founded so that individuals, firms, and businesses can establish a self-perpetuating, long-lasting mechanism to endow scholarships to deserving students who have selected accounting as a career. All financial commitments made by individuals and businesses through 2007 will be matched by the GSCPA, up to $500,000. PCAOB'S NEW AUDIT STANDARD FOR INTERNAL CONTROL OVER FINANCIAL REPORTING IS APPROVED BY THE SEC: The PCAOB's Auditing Standard No. 5, An Audit of Internal Control Over Financial Reporting That Is Integrated with An Audit of Financial Statements, was approved today by the Securities and Exchange Commission. It replaces the PCAOB's previous internal control auditing standard, Auditing Standard No. 2. In light of this development, the PCAOB announced that it is undertaking several initiatives to support the successful implementation of the standard.
