JOIN THE GSCPA IN BRINGING ACCOUNTING TO STUDENTS: Join the GSCPA's Financial Literacy Committee in bringing financial education to middle school students through Junior Achievement's Economics for Success program. Volunteers are needed to teach the six week course this fall. JA will provide the materials and training to volunteers. TAX INFO: New Electronic PIN Signature Requirement Begins in 2008 - The IRS will simplify the signature process for electronically filed individual income tax returns submitted by tax practitioners. The simplification eliminates the need for a paper signature document to be sent to the IRS in support of electronically filed tax returns.

IRS Releases Interim Report on Tax-Exempt Hospitals and Community Benefit Project - The IRS has released an interim report summarizing responses from almost 500 tax-exempt hospitals to a May 2006 questionnaire about how they provide and report benefits to the community. Providing community benefit is required for hospitals seeking and retaining tax-exempt status as charities.

FINANCIAL PLANNERS GET NEW ETHICS STANDARDS: The Certified Financial Planner Board of Standards, Inc. (CFP Board) has updated the ethical standards for financial planners who are authorized to use the CFP certification marks, including new guidance for Americans who seek professional financial planning advice.

GASB PROPOSES STANDARDS FOR REPORTING GOVERNMENT DERIVATIVES-PROPOSAL WOULD MAKE TRANSACTIONS MORE TRANSPARENT TO PUBLIC: GASB
proposed new standards for how state and local governments should report their involvement in often complex transactions known as derivative instruments. The proposal is contained in an Exposure Draft, Accounting and Financial Reporting for Derivative Instruments.

LAW AND ACCOUNTING FIRMS LOOK TO ATTRACT NEXT GENERATION: The legal and accounting professions, dealing with an escalating talent crunch, are sharpening their focus on Generation Y, or "the millennials," born since roughly 1980. About 76 million strong, their swelling percentage of the workforce as the overall labor market shrinks is fostering changes in recruiting and retention strategy, as reported by the Atlanta Business Journal.
