GSCPA GAVEL PASSES TO PAULA Y. MOONEY: Paula Mooney accepted the GSCPA gavel for 2007-08 from now past president William (Bill) Schneider at the Society’s Annual Convention in Grand Bahama Island in June.
TAX INFO:IRS Launches Four New “Life Cycles” on IRS.gov to Help Tax-Exempt Organizations Comply with the Law - The IRS launched four new "Life Cycles" — Web-based information tools — to help guide tax-exempt organizations through the federal tax rules and requirements that pertain to them.
Revised Innocent Spouse Form Now Available - The IRS announced a redesigned Form 8857, Request for Innocent Spouse Relief, that will help reduce follow-up questions and reduce the burden on taxpayers.
J. SAM JOHNSON RECEIVES GSCPA’S HIGHEST AWARD: The GSCPA recognized J. Sam Johnson with the 2007 Meritorious Service Award. This is the highest award presented and is for continued service to the organization and the profession. The award was presented at the GSCPA’s annual convention in June in Grand Bahama Island.

FRAUD EXAMINERS REPORT MORE CORPORATE DECEPTION: Despite the Sarbanes-Oxley Act and a heightened push for institutional integrity and fraud prevention, 76 percent of certified fraud examiners feel corporate deception has increased since 2002, and 56 percent of respondents said they have personally observed financial misconduct in the past year.
FINANCIAL PLANNING INDUSTRY TARGETS YOUNGER DEMOGRAPHIC: Financial planners are beginning to pay closer attention to people in their 20s and 30s, a group that has long received the brushoff from the financial-services industry because of its lack of wealth.
