THE GSCPA IS NOW ACCEPTING NOMINATIONS FOR THE 2007 LEADERSHIP ACADEMY: The Leadership Academy motivates employees to apply the leadership and development skills learned to their company, organization, and personal life. Following the four-session program, the graduating class will be empowered with skills to increase productivity, life morale, and improve quality. Dates, locations and nomination forms for the 2007 Leadership Academy Program are available on our web site.
TAX INFO: IRS Identifies 40 Frivolous Positions for Taxpayers to Avoid - The IRS has issued guidance identifying dozens of frivolous positions that taxpayers should avoid when filing their tax returns. The guidance lists 40 positions which have no basis for validity in existing law or which have been deemed frivolous by the United States Tax Court or other federal court.
IRS Web Site, Where’s My Refund? See Increased Use - The IRS has released statistics today showing that taxpayers’ use of IRS.gov, which includes features such as “Where’s My Refund?” is increasing. Use of the IRS Web site has increased 9 percent over this time last year to 83.3 million visits.
IRS Releases 2006 Data Book - The IRS has announced that its 2006 Data Book is available on the IRS Web site. The report describes activities conducted by the IRS from October 1, 2005, through September 30, 2006, and includes information about returns filed and taxes collected, enforcement, taxpayer assistance and the IRS budget and workforce.
CFOS - 404 COMPLIANCE BACK AT SQUARE ONE: Mismatches between the internal-controls proposals of the SEC and the PCAOB will keep compliance with Section 404 of the Sarbanes-Oxley Act overly burdensome and costly, CFOs think.
SURVEY - CONGRESSIONAL CHANGES WILL IMPACT BUSINESS TAX POLICY: The results of a recent study reflect an opinion that while companies do not believe broad-based tax reform is imminent, the change in Congressional control will have a significant impact on tax policy for business in specific industries as revenue offsets are at a premium.
THE VALUE OF JOB TENURE: It's not unusual today for people to change jobs periodically during their lifetimes. While carefully planned transitions can bring new challenges and greater rewards, too much moving around can be detrimental as well.
GSCPA WEB SITE FEATURE OF THE WEEK: You can renew your membership dues, and dues for your entire firm directly online. Visit the MY MEMEBERSHIP tab, and then select “Pay My Dues.” From there you will be able to choose to renew dues for yourself individually, or renew dues for multiple members of your firm or company.
