GEORGIA E-FILE AND E-PAY PROJECT HAS NEW REGULATIONS: New regulations for the e-file and e-pay project now require electronic funds transfers (EFT) at lower taxpayer liabilities thresholds. Effective January 1, 2007, taxpayers with $5,000 (previously $10,000) in tax liability are required to e-Pay and e-File. These regulations were written to apply to sales and use tax, withholding tax, and motor fuels tax, and "prematurely" included corporate and individual estimated tax payments.

TAX INFO: Free Tax Help Available at Sites Nationwide - More than 12,000 free tax preparation sites will be open nationwide this year as the IRS continues to expand its partnerships with nonprofit and community organizations performing vital tax preparation services for low-income and elderly taxpayers.

Mistakes Abound on Telephone-Tax Refund Requests; IRS Offers Tips for Getting a Speedy Refund -  The IRS offers taxpayers tips for requesting the telephone excise tax refund, after early tax returns show some people are making basic mistakes, others are requesting excessive refunds and many are missing out on the refunds, altogether.

SUPPORT CANCER RESEARCH THROUGH THE INCOME TAX CHECK-OFF: As you work with your clients on completing their state income tax return form, you can remind them to check the box to donate $1 (or more) to the Georgia Cancer Research Fund. Every dollar donated through the income tax check-off program goes directly to cancer clinicians and scientists doing research in Georgia. 

AICPA PUBLISHES NEW RESOURCES ON GENERALLY ACCEPTED PRIVACY PRINCIPLES: In association with the Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountants, the AICPA is releasing two new Generally Accepted Privacy Principles (GAPP) resource - one targeted to CPAs in industry, and one for public practice.

NEW FINANCIAL LITERACY RESOURCES AVAILABLE - Through the AICPA, there are two new Financial Literacy brochures available to you and your clients. One brochure details the resources available to CPAs, and the other is specific towards your clients and what resources are available to them as consumers. These are different from the ones offered previously. The first 10 brochures are free. Each additional one is $.50. To order, please contact Elizabeth Kistler at ekistler@gscpa.org or 404-504-2941. GSCPA SEEKS NOMINEES FOR PRESTIGIOUS AWARDS: Each year the Society recognizes individuals who have given their time to the Society, the profession, and their communities. The awards presented are: Meritorious Service, Public Service, Outstanding Member in Industry, and Outstanding Educator.

GSCPA WEB SITE FEATURE OF THE WEEK: The new and improved SEARCH ENGINE allows you to search by keyword. Results are then displayed in an organized manner to direct you easily through the site to find what you are looking for. The search feature is located in the top right-hand corner of the home page.

TAX SAVINGS TIPS FOR 2006 BROCHURE AVAILABLE: The new Tax Savings Tips for 2006 brochure is available for distribution to your clients and customers. The information covers tax breaks for investors, homeowners, parents; new provisions; and filing basics. This is a great marketing tool for your business. Space is provided on the back for you to affix a label with your firm's name, logo and contact information. There is no charge for the first 10 brochures. Each additional brochure is $.50.
